Europe

Many European countries are world renowned pioneers in the energy and cleantech sector. Northern Europe is among other things known for its well developed district heating systems and the use of waste as fuel in incineration plants. Within the EU there is a growing focus on extending the use of renewable energy and exploring the related knowledge and technology. You will find a high level of research and development in the companies within the sector, and many companies offer highly professional technologies, trade, know-how & equipment related to the energy and cleantech industry.

Denmark has gone from being almost fully dependent on sources of foreign oil to becoming completely energy self sufficient. Thirty years of focused energy policy, implemented after the 1973 oil crisis, have catapulted Denmark ahead of most other nations in the use and development of renewable energy technology.

The wind energy industry is a Danish stronghold with 20,000 people employed in the sector and companies occupying 40% of the world market. Apart from this, Denmark also has leading edge research programmes in future technologies such as hydrogen and fuel cells.

Denmark is also a leader in waste management and the European country which deposit the least of its waste. The majority of waste is incinerated and the energy derived from the process is used for district heating. A great amount of waste is also being recycled.
